What Is the Lounge?

Hi there. Jenni Robinson here. I'm taking over this section of the site because this is all a bit personal for me. See, 2005-2007, when all this happens, was a very difficult transitional time for me. It's a long story, but in a nutshell, I was going through a de-escalation in power and struggling with my identity, and I was pretty desperate for validation as a person and as a character. I wasn't always at my best. I hitched my wagon to some real disasters, and I'm lucky I got out with my sanity.

But let me back up and answer the question at hand. The Lounge is a strange place in PPC Headquarters where the rules that usually govern HQ tend to look the other way—where agents, OCs, canon characters, and sometimes even authors mingle freely, where the fourth wall is particularly transparent to anyone who cares to look, where Doors to other times and places open at the whims of the Ironic Overpower, and where author plot contrivance governs what is and isn't possible. There's a large main room full of couches, chairs, and beanbags to sit in. There's a bar on one wall, a fireplace on another, and doors here and there. One door goes to a corridor in Headquarters; another leads to a kitchen, which is always stocked (or not) however the current plot demands. The others are the capital-D Doors: unstable plotholes that can open to anywhere in the multiverse. Overhead, there are large rafters, comfortable for lurking in, and above those is Somewhere Upwards, where hardly anyone goes.

We got all sorts in there. We laughed, cried, and fought with each other. Sometimes it was like a great big party. Other times, it got downright dangerous, and when the dust settled it was up to me to stitch everyone's wounds as best I could. The physical wounds were tough enough. The psychological baggage was another story. We weren't always great friends, but at the end of the day, most of us cared about most of the rest of us in one way or another. At least, I did. It was like a huge, dysfunctional family, and it was mine. Sometimes I really miss it.

If you read these logs, you're going to come across a lot of names, and I can almost guarantee you won't recognize all of them. You might want to take a moment to familiarize yourself with the dramatis personae before you proceed, but feel free to dive right in, too.

The Logs
June 2005
What: In which our young authors are entirely too casual with the Lone Power, I embarrass myself, Erik and Sang go looking for the group, Henry's first attempt at cooking goes horribly wrong, and in the end a fight breaks out. This pretty much sets the tone for everything to come.
Rating: ?
October 2005
What: Henry, Rhianna, and I care for Lupe and Sang, who came back to the Lounge in bad shape after a mission. Maera gets on Pralaya!Leofric's bad side, but then engages in a philosophical discussion with him and me about fear, death, and the end of the universe. This is derailed when Leof and I start bantering about fruit. (This is one of my favorite memories of the Lounge.)
Rating: ?
December 2005
What: Having introduced Heldad to the PPC, I then have to talk him out of messing with the canon to save his sire, Raziel, from losing his wings and being chucked into the Abyss. I discover he has a weakness for being preened, and we both take a nap; then I get a massage in return. Later, he drags me off to his castle for "torture." Later still, the Loungers exchange Christmas gifts.
Rating: PG - If this is torture, chain me to the wall!
May 2006
What: My chat with Martin is interrupted by another visitor from AU!Nosgoth and the arrival of other Loungers. Henry continues to wrestle with the problem of 'Fer's vampirism and goes in search of a proper lab to work in. Later, I get in over my head with the Lone Power.
Rating: ?
July 2006
What: The Loungers hear of the PPC Badfic Game. Ginger attempts to exorcise people, then fills the sprinkler system with Bleepka and sets off the fire alarm, drenching everyone. Henry thinks he's finally found a way to cure 'Fer's vampirism. Martin, Madoc, and I try to comfort Travis, but Martin suddenly goes into a changestate. Despite my misgivings, Madoc leads Travis to the Disneyverse in the hope of finding a way to make him human again. Avitus wakes up in Erik's secret lair, much to Erik's annoyance.
Rating: ?
August 2006
What: Travis, with some coaching from me, makes a deal with Disney!Hades for the return of his human body. All he has to do is deliver a little present to Eris. Meanwhile, the Lounge celebrates 'Fer's cure. Unfortunately, the party sours when a fight breaks out between Erik and Lupe and it turns out that 'Fer isn't so much cured of vampirism as she is afflicted with Jekyll & Hyde syndrome. (Oops.) Gwen gets a visit from her many-times-great-niece and learns some bad news from home.
Rating: PG-13/T - Violence, swearing.
October 2006
What: I comfort a runaway from Heldrad's world while the hen searches the kitchen for baby formula. Ilraen is introduced to the Lounge and his future partner and acquires a human morph. Leof returns in her Esemeli form, Rumor comes to collect her trunk from Somewhere Upwards, and Lupe, Ginger, and Erik have a knife-throwing contest with Andras as the target.
Rating: ?
November 2006
What: Heldrad and I work together to take care of kid!Avitus. I finally get to meet Heldrad's baby and, after frankly expressing my concerns about his ability to be a parent to a human child on his own, I agree to move into the castle with him and be Abigail's nanny, at least until someone more suitable can be found.
Rating: ?
March 2007
What: I begin to familiarize myself with Heldrad's Citadel, and when kid!Avitus wakes up, we reassure him. Back in the Lounge, it's practically a party with cuddly navymen, spontaneous me/Andras sexyfuntimes, adorable innocents being given beer, Heldrad giving out massages, and the violent types mostly keeping to themselves. Yay! Later, Ginger and I have a talk, Orion is sparkly, human!Travis turns up with burd!Travis, and I am the wrongest I've ever been, ever.

June 2007
What: In a shocking return to form, the Loungers hit the beach for silly, fun hijinks. (This is the one and only time you will catch Nume in swim trunks.) Erik and Lupe stay behind and fill the Lounge with booby-traps. Later, the Master and Alec Troven join the group, and the intellectual types classify a new species of aquatic cricket.

Dramatis Personae: Who Are These Wackos, Anyway?

For the sake of all our sanity, these are just the main characters, so to speak.

Andras
Original character
Player: Nueva Paz
About: Andras is some sort of angelic being, though not of the holy variety. He has one, sometimes two sets of red-and-white wings: a big set on his back and (sometimes) a little set on his head. He used to have three sets, but the largest was removed, which makes him unsteady in flight. He is blind and wears a red blindfold. His hair is long and silvery. He's a lecher and enjoys listening to the mayhem in the Lounge. He's also funny, and good for spontaneous, no-strings canoodling. <3

Edward Hyde, Mr.
Canon: Jekyll & Hyde
Player: Neshomeh
About: Everybody knows the story of Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde in one form or another, right? Well, Hyde is the worse half of Dr. Henry Jekyll, who invented a potion to remove his evil side and ended up isolating it into its own persona instead. The two fight for dominance, and when Hyde gets the upper hand, bad things happen. This version is the classic Hyde, a small, hairy little imp of a man with fiendish strength and not a clean thought in his head. He is not the Hulk. Movie producers, take note.

Erik
Canon: The Phantom of the Opera
Player: Neshomeh
About: Erik is the Phantom of the Opera. This particular version is based mostly on Phantom by Susan Kay with influences from the original novel by Gaston Leroux and the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. His best friend (if the term applies) in the Lounge is Lupeias. When the two of them aren't causing trouble or fighting with each other, they like to hang out in the rafters and heckle everyone else. He and I also have a history. I wanted to give him another shot at happiness after the Christine fiasco, so I snatched him up and tried to show him that not everyone cares about appearances. There might have been something between us, but I couldn't do anything about it until he was ready, and due to various things, he just never was.

Ginger
Original character, PPC agent
Player: Oracle
About: Ginger works off and on in the Department of Floaters. She is antisocial, violent, and has a bit of a drinking problem. When her daughter was born, I helped her decide on the name Henna. Unfortunately, Ginger didn't get to raise her; instead, Henna went to live with Ginger's sister, leaving Ginger more depressed and alcoholic than ever.

Gwen
Original character, PPC agent
Player: Hawkelf
About: Gwen is a Scottish werehawk and one of Lupe's best friends, to the point of being considered family. Her closest living blood relation, a many-times-great nephew, is not on good terms with her and tries to spite her whenever possible, but she does get along with his children, Jamie, Kelsey, and Charlie. She is one of the peacekeepers in the Lounge, rarely getting involved in fights except to break them up.

Heldrad
Original character, Legacy of Kain AU
Player: Nightsail
About: Heldrad is an evolved Razielim vampire from an alternate future of Nosgoth in which Raziel rescued his "offspring" from being annihilated. Heldrad is one of the oldest and therefore most evolved, so he has fully feathered black wings, a working syrinx, and bird-like legs and feet. He is frequently referred to as "the hen" due to his tendency to fuss and cuddle over anyone who'll sit still for it. He is one of my dearest friends, which is why I agreed to move in and help him raise his human daughter, Abigail, when the clueless burd rescued her from the past. (Incidentally, "burd" is not a typo; it's just shorthand for "bird-like blue critter.")

Henry Jekyll, Dr.
Canon: Jekyll & Hyde
Player: Neshomeh
About: This version of Henry is mostly from the Broadway musical with influences from the original book by Robert Louis Stevenson. He is kind, brilliant, and just a little mad. He started out as another of my little projects, lifted from the end of his story to have another shot at life in a more accepting crowd, and he held his own so well I stopped worrying about him. He never did get along with Erik—he's English and Erik is French, after all—but he hit it off with Lupe right away and eventually became very good friends with 'Fer. Maybe I should've kept a closer eye on the mad science, though.

Ilraen-Aroline-Fothergill
Original character, PPC agent, Animorphs badfic recruit
Player: Neshomeh
About: Ilraen is an Andalite who I introduced to the Lounge to help get him socialized and ready to be Nume's partner. For more about him, see his official profile.

Leofric
Canon: Young Wizards
Player: Blayze
About: Oh, Leof. What do I say about him? Well, first of all, he is properly the Lone Power: Fairest, Fallen, and Redeemed, but we couldn't go around addressing him like that all the time, and someone had to stop Blayze from calling him "Snuffy," so I named him Leofric—that's beloved ruler, if you know your Old English. I had the most hopeless crush on him. Infatuation, more like. I was a moth, he was an industrial searchlight—a supernova. It would have been such a coup for me if I could have coaxed even the slightest amount of . . . well, never mind. I might as well say "blood from a stone." It wasn't my place, and it didn't happen. I was such a fool.

Lupeias
Original character, retired PPC agent
Player: Blayze
About: Originally from Italy, Lupe is a werewolf and former DMS assassin. She's about 400 years old and one cranky wolf, but she acts as pack leader to Sanguine and Gwen and does her best to keep everyone else in line. We were never close, but I think we more or less respected each other. Even if she was a bad influence on Erik.

Maera
Original character
Player: Nueva Paz
About: To put it kindly, Maera drove us all mad. I don't want to be unfair, she had a hard life growing up as a half-demon in an orphanage where they were less than accepting of her differences, but boy did she come to the wrong place for sympathy. She got on everyone's bad side when she developed a fangirl crush on Erik and took to glomping him at every opportunity, driving him back into his shell when he'd just started warming up to the other Loungers. She never did learn not to put her foot in her mouth, either, despite our most vehement efforts to educate her on the consequences of careless words.

Martin
Original character, Legacy of Kain AU
Player: Phoenix
About: Martin is another Razielim, but from an earlier time than Heldrad. He was still mostly human and didn't even have his wings yet. He had just about joined the PPC when he went into a changestate. Too bad . . . I liked the guy. His twin brother Madoc, a dog-like Turelim vamp, came around once or twice to cause trouble, too. The kid just wanted to help, but sheesh.
Nosferatu
Original character, retired PPC agent
Player: Blayze
About: 'Fer is a vampire of the more classic Stoker variety. Originally she's from Boston, and she's one tough chick. She took a shine to Henry, and they came this close to having a great romance. If only Henry weren't so very Victorian... if only they didn't both struggle so literally with their inner demons.

Reria De Folle
Original character, PPC agent
Player: Oracle
About: Reria is a gorgeous blonde vampire lady... who I really never got to know very well, unfortunately. She once did me a huge favor by letting me work out the effects of the Fey Wine Incident with her. (Thank the Powers that that isn't on record!) I think I still have the leather outfit she loaned me when I lost my clothes, too. <3
Art: "Reria De Folle" 01/22/06
Rhianna
Original character
Player: Nueva Paz
About: Rhianna is a soft-spoken half-elf from a generic fantasy world. She is kind and quiet, and tends to be a little unnerved by all the raucous, violent types, so we don't hear from her much. She helps when she does appear, though.
Art: "Women of the Lounge" 09/02/06 | "OC Meme" 07/23/08 | "Madlib Meme" 02/03/09
Sanguine
Original character, former PPC agent
Player: Blayze
About: Sang is a big, tough werewolf, originally Scottish. He is a member of Lupe's pack and was her partner in the DMS, Final Fantasy X Division. He likes to cook and doesn't tolerate people hovering around him causing trouble.

Travis
Original character, Legacy of Kain AU
Player: Nightsail
About: This poor kid managed to bring out the worst in me. Not so much the first time he came around looking for a way to be made human again; that went all right despite my misgivings. (I mean, yes, we sort of helped start the Trojan War, but that would've happened with or without us.) The second time, when he showed up again with a still-vamped alternate version of himself in tow, I don't know what it was, but I just didn't have my head on straight. I really regret how I handled that one.
